About the position

The Systems Admin II - Linux position at BAE Systems involves supporting classified lab environments that utilize Linux and Windows networked systems. The role focuses on setting up, managing, and troubleshooting Linux servers and workstations, while also having some experience with Microsoft Windows Active Directory and related services. The successful candidate will work closely with internal customers to design, implement, and manage lab infrastructure, ensuring compliance with security standards and providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Support classified lab environments using Linux and Windows systems.
  • Set up and manage Linux servers and workstations.
  • Manage Microsoft Windows Active Directory and Group Policy Management.
  • Design and implement workgroup-scale networks.
  • Build and manage authentication, file-share, and collaboration servers.
  • Document system configurations for new and existing systems.
  • Work with security staff to apply hardening steps for classified systems.
  • Respond to off-hours outages and participate in service restoration efforts.

Requirements

  • 8 years of experience in enterprise-level Linux and/or Windows Server environments.
  • Experience with Windows Active Directory, Group Policy Management, SharePoint, and Exchange services.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and Microsoft Networking concepts.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux and Windows interoperability services.
  • Familiarity with centralized authentication technologies for cross-platform clients.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and work in various positions for equipment setup.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with virtual machine technologies (ESXi, VCenter, VSphere).
  • Knowledge of NetApp Management.
  • Experience with PXE and WDS automated system installation technologies.
  • Familiarity with automated backup systems.
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Knowledge of Unix shell scripting.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Subversion, ClearCase).
  • CompTIA Security certification or CISSP certification.
