About the position

The Systems Administrator II - Linux position at BAE Systems is designed for an experienced IT systems administrator who will support classified lab environments utilizing both Linux and Windows networked systems. The successful candidate will take on the role of a Linux Server lead, joining a dedicated team that focuses on supporting internal customers by designing, implementing, and managing lab infrastructure tailored to meet specific customer requirements. This role involves building, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting both Linux and Windows servers, as well as user workstation hardware and software. The candidate will also be responsible for designing and implementing workgroup-scale networks and managing authentication, file-share, and collaboration servers to support diverse client systems. In this position, the administrator will collaborate with facilities security staff to develop and apply hardening steps for systems intended for classified use, adhering to NISPOM Chapter 8, FISMA, and other relevant customer standards. Documentation of system configurations for both new and existing systems is a critical aspect of the role. Experience with centralized authentication technologies, such as LDAP and Active Directory domains, is highly desirable, particularly in supporting cross-platform clients that include both Windows and Linux systems. The ideal candidate should possess a strong customer service orientation, attention to detail, and self-motivation, along with the ability to work effectively in team settings. Flexibility in problem-solving approaches, a keen understanding of customer needs and priorities, and a quick learning ability for new technologies are essential qualities for success in this role. Additionally, the candidate must be willing to respond to occasional off-hours outages and participate in subsequent service restoration efforts. A security clearance eligibility within three months of the hire date or an active Secret clearance is required for this position. CompTIA Security+ certification (or equivalent) is mandatory for working in the customer labs, with preference given to candidates who already hold this certification.
