About the position

The Systems Administrator I at Azusa Pacific University will serve as a technical leader within the IT Classroom & Device Solutions team, focusing on the administration of systems and services that support faculty, staff, and students. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance automation and reliability of critical enterprise services, ensuring optimal performance and availability of systems in a mission-critical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Linux and Windows system hosts and clusters in a virtual environment (VMWare).
  • Administer Apple/Windows/VM/Raspberry Pi system hosts in the environment (JAMF/SCCM/YoDeck).
  • Build, design, and deploy servers (physical, virtual, and cloud) as part of regular hardware and software refresh cycles.
  • Provide support for incident resolution, service requests, and problem management for the classroom and device support team.
  • Conduct routine server software maintenance, patching, and performance tuning to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  • Build, configure and maintain application environments (e.g. dev, testing, staging, production).
  • Deploy updates to keep applications current and secure.
  • Perform benchmarking, tuning, and capacity planning for systems and applications.
  • Assist with direct and indirect monitoring and log analysis, establishing thresholds for automated alerts and notifications.
  • Assist with deployments of application code, configuration, etc from development through to production.
  • Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot common application stacks (e.g. App, Web, Database).
  • Assist with managing common security practices for applications and systems (e.g. SELinux, iptables, windows firewall, antivirus).
  • Configure and allocate cross-platform SAN/NAS-based storage to virtual and physical infrastructure.
  • Participate on Directory Services teams for managing attributes and policy for client/server and other personal technology applications.
  • Design, document, and implement solutions for providing various types of high-availability systems.
  • Research and recommend new technology, services, applications, and procedures.
  • Coordinate and communicate scheduled maintenance and deployments affecting services, with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain server and platform images, containers, and or other config management tools for rapid deployment of systems.
  • Manage enterprise backups, recovery and Disaster Recovery solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a related degree, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • One to two years of System Administration experience.
  • Experience in Linux and Windows system administration, virtualization, and application management.

Nice-to-haves

  • CompTIA Server+, RHCSA, MCSE, or equivalent certifications.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Perl, Bash, PowerShell, Python.
  • Familiarity with DevOps models and tools like Saltstack, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
