About the position

The Systems Administrator II at Fort Johnson will be responsible for maintaining and supporting the IT infrastructure, ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of systems and services. This role requires a solid understanding of systems administration, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain Windows and Linux servers, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and security.
  • Monitor and tune system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Perform regular system updates, patch management, and backups to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Implement and manage security measures to protect data and systems from unauthorized access.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure systems comply with DOD 8140 requirements.
  • Monitor network performance and connectivity, addressing any issues promptly.
  • Provide technical support to end-users, resolving system and network issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the deployment and configuration of new hardware and software.
  • Create and maintain documentation for systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Participate in IT projects, contributing to the planning, implementation, and testing phases.
  • Assist in the evaluation of new technologies and tools to enhance system performance and security.
  • Ensure all systems and procedures comply with DOD 8140 requirements.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on system performance, security incidents, and compliance status.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in systems administration, with a focus on managing Windows and Linux environments.
  • Experience in working within a DOD or government environment is preferred.
  • Must be DOD 8140 compliant (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or equivalent).
  • Relevant system administration certifications (e.g., MCSA, RHCSA) are highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of system and network security best practices.
  • Proficient in system monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
