About the position

The Systems Administrator (Linux) position at Amentum involves maintaining and managing Linux-based systems within a classified enterprise network. The role focuses on ensuring operational efficiency, performing security administration, and providing technical support to users and stakeholders. Responsibilities

  • Maintains smooth operation of Linux-based systems, coordinating with network and systems engineers.
  • Monitors and manages system resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, and response times to maintain operating efficiency.
  • Performs systems security administration functions, including creating user profiles and accounts.
  • Sets up administrator accounts, maintains system documentation, tunes system performance, and installs system-wide software.
  • Interacts with users, makes recommendations for hardware and software purchases, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery.
  • Handles service inquiries and problems from customers.
  • Provides support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems, distinguishing isolated user problems from enterprise-wide issues.
  • Coordinates with customers and stakeholders to collect data, conduct analysis, and implement solutions for incident tickets and requirements.
  • Examines customer problems and implements corrective actions for repairs or returns.
  • Analyzes recurring problems and initiates solutions to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Works with systems and network engineers to implement enterprise-wide systems and technologies.
  • Installs and troubleshoots workstations, thin clients, applications, printers/scanners, phones, and various other IT equipment.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in systems administration and end-user support for a Linux environment.
  • Basic working knowledge of Linux command line and various Linux operating systems.
  • Experience administering and working within a virtualized environment.
  • Ability to articulate technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems with various levels of stakeholders.
  • Experience working within classified enterprise networks.
  • Experience working with ticketing systems (i.e. Jira, ServiceNow, etc).
  • Experience creating technical documentation to include diagrams, both logical and physical.
  • Required IAT Certs: one or more of the following: Security+, CASP+ or CISSP.
  • Required Vendor Cert: one or more of the following: VMWare, Linux+, or RedHat. Must achieve if not currently held within 6 months of hire.
