About the position

The Systems Administrator (Linux) at TEKsystems is responsible for the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of all FCCC/Civitek systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure. This role involves participating in technical research and development to foster innovation within the infrastructure, ensuring adherence to organizational policies, and providing technical expertise for complex operating systems. The position also includes responsibilities for system performance tuning, recovery procedures, and project leadership to deliver high-quality service to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the FCCC host computer systems by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair.
  • Develop new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts, and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability.
  • Manage the performance, OS patches, upgrades, firmware of the UNIX/Linux operating system, system hardware, and applications on a regular basis.
  • Ensure high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission-critical host computer resources.
  • Manage, update, and configure a local Storage Area Network (SAN).
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
  • Manage installation and/or upgrades of systems management/monitoring/administrative tools and utilities.
  • Manage daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes.
  • Manage daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media.
  • Develop procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature, and user abuse.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions and address security concerns according to the FCCC/Civitek security policy guidelines.
  • Research, suggest, and implement system changes, including operating system updates, firmware upgrades, security, networking, etc.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures, coordinating and communicating with impacted constituencies.
  • Engineering of SA-related solutions for various projects and operational needs.
  • Disaster response and continuity planning and testing for each of the FCCC/Civitek functional areas.
  • Develop and maintain operational, configuration, or other documentation/procedures.
  • Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies, investigating and troubleshooting issues.
  • Interpret and discuss information with others in a courteous and professional manner, providing advice and recommending actions involving technology issues.
  • Respond promptly when returning telephone calls and replying to written correspondence.
  • Provide high-quality customer service to all internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or a related field.
  • 3 years of related experience or 5 years of previous related experience.
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux Server Administration.
  • Understanding of virtualization concepts, tools, configuration, and clustering.
  • Experience managing a Storage Area Network (SAN).
  • Knowledge of Cloud Technologies such as Azure, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Containers.
  • Knowledge of current backup technologies.
  • Understanding of Computer Security and networking concepts.
  • Ability to troubleshoot various aspects of computer hardware, software, networking/connectivity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Exchange and Office 365 preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Systems a plus.
