About the position

The Systems Administrator (Linux) at Fairleigh Dickinson University is responsible for deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting all data center systems under the direction of the Director of Systems. This role involves managing permissions, configurations, backups, and resource provisioning, as well as participating in system builds and installations. The administrator will monitor the health of operating systems and address backup-related issues, ensuring the smooth operation of the university's IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot data center systems.
  • Manage permissions, modifications, configurations, backups, and restores.
  • Participate in system builds, installations, and maintenance.
  • Monitor the daily health of operating systems.
  • Respond to backup-related issues.
  • Utilize RedHat enterprise management tools like Ansible Automation and Satellite.
  • Perform skilled work in installation, maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of RedHat Linux systems.
  • Utilize various backup software in a virtualized environment like Veeam.
  • Support VMware vSphere ESXi and multisite replication.
  • Work with relational database management systems (SQL, MySQL).
  • Manage user accounts in Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Communicate effectively with university personnel and students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 2 years' experience in Linux Systems Administration.
  • Strong knowledge of RedHat Linux systems installation and maintenance.
  • Experience with RedHat Ansible Automation and RedHat Satellite.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell and shell scripting.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C++, Perl, PHP.
  • Experience with backup software in virtualized environments.
  • Knowledge of VMware vSphere ESXi and multisite replication.
  • Familiarity with relational database management systems (SQL, MySQL).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory.
  • General knowledge of Cloud technologies and networking protocols.

Nice-to-haves

  • RedHat certification.
  • Experience in website UX design.
  • Ability to work a non-standard schedule.
