About the position

The Systems Administrator will be a key member of the IT Support Services team at Starks Industries Inc., responsible for administering, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining operating systems and related software for the DC Child Support Enforcement System. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation and functionality of the system, which supports the Office of the Attorney General in providing legal services to the District of Columbia.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, develop, and maintain operating systems and related software for the DC Child Support Enforcement System, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Establish and implement standards for computer operations to ensure compatibility between hardware and software, according to specifications and parameters.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software, operating system, and networking problems, providing timely and effective solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Schedule, perform, and monitor system backups, and perform data recoveries as necessary to safeguard critical information.
  • Recommend hardware and software upgrades based on growth statistics and disk space forecasts, and schedule and perform system upgrades as needed.
  • Schedule tasks using software support tools and scripts to automate routine processes and improve efficiency.
  • Configure hardware, including workstations, printers, servers, and tape devices, to ensure proper functionality and compatibility.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to system users, addressing inquiries, troubleshooting issues, and offering guidance on system usage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; relevant certifications preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role, preferably in a government or legal environment.
  • Proficiency in administering, developing, and maintaining operating systems and related software.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve software, operating system, and networking problems.
  • Experience with system backups, data recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software upgrades, including scheduling and performing system upgrades.
  • Familiarity with task scheduling using software support tools and scripts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide technical support to system users.
