About the position

The Systems Analyst/Computer Operator is responsible for analyzing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting centralized computer systems, programs, and software. This role involves meeting with users to implement new systems or modify existing ones, as well as training users in the proper operation of these systems. The position requires leading and managing various projects related to system installations and other activities. The individual will also be tasked with troubleshooting and resolving mainframe problems, conducting diagnostic testing, and ordering replacement parts as necessary. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Systems Analyst/Computer Operator will provide technical information and support to departmental staff, other departments, and end users. This includes responding to questions or problems in person or over the phone, and driving to various sites to assist users as needed. The role also involves preparing and maintaining records and reports related to assigned activities, operating various computer hardware and software systems, and performing system backups and preventive maintenance. The position requires effective communication with management personnel, district staff, and outside organizations to coordinate activities and resolve issues. The Systems Analyst/Computer Operator will also be responsible for updating and servicing the Internet web server and email systems, ensuring the integrity and reliability of computer-generated reports, and maintaining current knowledge of technological advances and industry trends. Overall, this role is critical in ensuring the smooth operation of computer systems and providing support to users, while also managing projects and maintaining documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, maintain and troubleshoot centralized computer systems, programs and software.
  • Install hardware and software systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mainframe problems; conduct diagnostic testing on computers as needed.
  • Order replacement parts as needed.
  • Provide technical information to other departmental staff, other departments, other sites and end users.
  • Provide training and support in the proper use of installed software systems.
  • Respond to questions or problems in person or on the telephone.
  • Drive to various sites to assist users as needed.
  • Lead and manage various projects related to new central system installation and other system-related activities.
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports related to assigned activities.
  • Operate assigned computer hardware and software systems including mainframe, network and personal computers.
  • Operate various printers, hard drives, cables and connectors, and other tools as assigned.
  • Perform system back-ups; perform preventive maintenance on hardware and software systems.
  • Communicate with various management personnel, District staff and outside organization to coordinate activities, exchange information and resolve issues and concerns.
  • Coordinate activities with computer operators to print reports, back up computer system information and administrate electronic mail and other services provided by the District office computer center.
  • Update and service Internet web server and E-Mail systems.
  • Assure the integrity and reliability of computer-generated reports.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technological advances and industry trends.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by a bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems or related field.
  • Increasingly responsible experience in mainframe computer installations, operations, troubleshooting and repair work.
  • Valid California driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with project management and data conversion techniques.
  • Knowledge of centralized information system management.
  • Familiarity with computer system training techniques.
