About the position

The Systems Analyst (Entry Level) position at Serco in Arlington, VA, offers an opportunity to contribute to U.S. Navy Shipbuilding programs. The role involves providing systems engineering support, participating in trials, and assisting in the development and maintenance of ship systems. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with a team to ensure the safety and effectiveness of naval operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to clients developing and maintaining U.S. Navy surface ships systems and associated subsystems, under supervision.
  • Provide analytical support for hull, mechanical and electrical systems; total ship engineering; ship surveillance; and all types of waterfront engineering and inspections.
  • Evaluate and review shipbuilder work packages, conduct photo documentation, and develop databases for key information searches.
  • Review drawings, Initial Change Proposals (ICP), Engineering Change Proposals (ECP), waterfront changes, work items, design reviews, condition reports, and trial cards.
  • Review initial designs, developments, and analysis of new ships and/or ship systems.
  • Provide support in the development of designs for current and conceptualized ships, systems, and equipment, evaluating designs for feasibility.
  • Review ECP packages for completeness and provide recommendations.
  • Assess compliance with Naval regulatory and design standards.
  • Interface with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to ensure necessary resources are available for ship/system.
  • Participate in Gas Turbine design meetings.
  • Review qualification test procedures and participate in qualification testing and trials.
  • Support production design and construction oversight and review processes to ensure compliance with product specifications.
  • Research recent technology and/or development tools to remain informed of current technology.
  • Maintain communications with SUPSHIP, NAVAIR, and other commands, including laboratories and support contractors, in resolving technical issues.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Active DOD Secret clearance.
  • US Citizenship.
  • A Bachelor's degree and 0-2 years experience, or an Associate's Degree and 2 years of direct shipboard experience in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience working with ship and ship system design principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with maritime HM&E systems and Naval construction process and maritime fuel systems, Gas Turbine Propulsion, Gas Turbine Generators, Saltwater Cooling systems, damage control systems, and auxiliary systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently with limited or no supervision.
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • The ability to travel 25% of the time.

Nice-to-haves

  • An active or current DoD Secret clearance.
  • Knowledge of DDG 51 acquisition program and processes.
  • Experience working with applicable regulatory, commercial, and military standards and classification society rules.
  • Experience working with ship system performance assessment and prediction methods.
  • Experience working with Navy ship and ship system design principles and practices.
  • Former Navy gas turbine shipboard auxiliary or main propulsion experience.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $62,037.42 to $93,056.69 based on experience and qualifications.
