About the position

The City of Thornton is seeking a Systems Analyst I or II to support multiple complex applications for various internal customers. This role involves systems analysis, support, configuration, and some IT project management. The successful candidate will collaborate with the city's Network Services, Technical Services, and Cybersecurity teams, as well as third-party vendors, to ensure the functionality of vital services for city employees. The position requires a team player with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform systems analysis, support, and IT project management.
• Analyze and design application software; assess user needs and evaluate existing software systems.
• Research, test, and evaluate equipment and application products.
• Assist in developing purchase specifications.
• Construct, test, document, monitor, and provide production support for complex application software.
• Test, install, customize, and maintain new applications and systems; develop and deliver employee training.
• Diagnose and remedy system or programming problems, developing reasonable alternatives.
• Interact with users, vendors, and contractors to select appropriate software and equipment.
• Manage projects, including creating relevant project documentation, assigning tasks, and reporting project progress.
• Develop internal project management standards and methodologies.
• May design, write, and maintain software for various City departments and functions.
• Perform database backup and recovery, daily monitoring of scheduled jobs, database design, development, and support.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university.
• For Systems Analyst I: Three years of moderate to complex experience in IT project management, system support, development, and/or database administration.
• For Systems Analyst II: Five years of progressively responsible experience in IT project management, system support, development, and/or database administration.
• Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and goals of the City of Thornton and the department.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of computer programming and systems analysis.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Public Safety software applications, such as computer-aided dispatch systems and records management systems.
• Knowledge of the City of Thornton Municipal Code associated with user departments and special projects.
