The Systems Analyst I position at the University of Mississippi is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the enterprise-level computing needs of the university. This role involves analyzing, designing, and implementing computer systems and programs that support various applications across the institution. The incumbent will be responsible for providing support to computer users and will report to a higher-level project team leader, ensuring that the systems in place are efficient and effective in meeting the university's needs. In this role, the Systems Analyst I will develop requirements and create programs and utilities that support enterprise-wide applications. A significant part of the job includes developing a testing strategy and performing comprehensive program tests, including unit and integration testing, to ensure that all systems function as intended. The analyst will also maintain system performance by troubleshooting and resolving system and user problems, providing assistance to users regarding computer-related functions. The position requires the modification and updating of existing programs, with complete testing and documentation of all changes made. The analyst will write computer programs, user manuals, and provide training to users on the systems implemented. Identifying software requirements and liaising with vendors for software presentations are also key responsibilities. The analyst will devise preliminary solutions for current program shortcomings and will be involved in studying the objectives, programs, and functions of various departments within the university. Additionally, the Systems Analyst I will collect, code, classify, and analyze data, conferring with personnel from operating units or other departments to suggest revisions or plans for standardizing input data. The role also includes preparing flowcharts, block diagrams, technical reports, detailed test plans, and test schedules. Participation in the training of personnel in operating units and other departments is expected, along with documenting all new systems and changes to existing systems as necessary. The analyst will also assist senior support staff in scheduling and running production work, while staying updated on current software application development techniques and methodologies through professional development activities.

  • Participates in the training of personnel in operating units and other departments.
  • Documents all new systems/programs and changes to existing system/programs as necessary.
  • Assists senior support staff in the scheduling of and the running of production work.
  • Reads professional journals, participates in classes and workshops, networks with peers, and accesses knowledge bases to keep up with current software application development techniques and methodologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • One (1) year of experience related to the above described duties.
