As part of the IT Enterprise Systems (ES) team, the Systems Analyst performs tasks related to the design, implementation, support/maintenance, and enhancement of Northwestern University's enterprise, vendor, and in-house developed applications. This role involves documenting functional requirements, analyzing requirements in the context of software and processes, developing and executing test plans, assisting with and documenting business process improvement efforts, and addressing production issues. The Systems Analyst is responsible for completing content, processes, and procedures for technical and functional system work that is low in complexity. In terms of strategic planning, the Systems Analyst partners with senior analysts, end users, and peers to document and analyze functional requirements, identify gaps, and explore alternative approaches to meet those requirements. They ensure that all deliverables are completed while adhering to approved methodology and documentation standards. Additionally, they collaborate with functional users and technical staff to determine the best approaches, ensuring that approved solutions are implemented in a timely and correct manner. The role also includes administrative responsibilities such as drafting accurate documentation of processes, procedures, and system/application configurations. The Systems Analyst formulates and executes test scripts, implementation project plans, and rolls out communications and training materials. They outline medium complexity use cases and formulate test scripts for moderate to complex use cases to ensure that the implemented software functions correctly. Performance evaluation is another key aspect of the role, where the Systems Analyst assists in software evaluation and enters moderate to complex configurations to meet user needs. They collect feedback from users on application performance and escalate critical performance issues with technical resources and management. Collaboration with technical, reporting, and application resources is essential to analyze and resolve production issues in a timely manner, providing input into possible solutions based on prior system knowledge and basic analytical skills. The Systems Analyst also provides work direction and/or supervises staff such as subordinates, contractors, vendors, and students. They manage basic projects or work packets, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and expectations are met. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
