About the position

The Systems Analyst position at UCSF Health is a full-time role that applies the skills of a seasoned clinical applications professional to projects of medium size and complexity, or portions of larger projects. This role operates under a dual reporting structure to both the Mission Bay Pediatrics Heart Center and the Oakland Pediatrics Heart Center IT team, which supports clinical applications across the Pediatrics Heart and Vascular enterprise. As an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, the Systems Analyst will assist with data abstraction from Epic and various software platforms, engage in report building, and conduct analysis from the electronic medical record. This position is crucial for providing data-driven insights that inform programmatic strategies, growth initiatives, and quality improvement efforts. In addition to data analysis, the Systems Analyst will deliver customer service, troubleshoot issues, and maintain clinical and informational technology applications within the Mission Bay Pediatrics Heart Center. Responsibilities also include troubleshooting workstations and servers at the application level and facilitating open communication with IT and Clinical Systems, as well as departmental partners. The role requires availability for emergencies involving critical technical problems, ensuring that the clinical systems operate smoothly and efficiently. The Division of Cardiology at UCSF is one of the largest clinical, research, and training divisions within the Department of Medicine. It encompasses various sub-specialty sections and runs multiple clinical practices, conducts research, and educates medical professionals through various training programs. The Systems Analyst will play a key role in supporting these operations through effective management of clinical applications and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with data abstraction from Epic and other software platforms.
  • Engage in report building and analysis from the electronic medical record.
  • Provide data-driven insights to inform programmatic strategies and quality initiatives.
  • Deliver customer service and troubleshooting for clinical and informational technology applications.
  • Maintain clinical applications and ensure their effective operation.
  • Troubleshoot workstations and servers at the application level.
  • Facilitate communication between IT, Clinical Systems, and departmental partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
  • Availability 24x7 for emergencies involving critical technical problems.
  • Three (3) years of related experience in a hospital environment.
  • Experience with clinical core software applications and SQL Server Databases.
  • Proven experience in the operation and analysis of database hardware, software, and standards.
  • Broad and/or in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical applications specialty area(s).
  • Strong problem-resolution skills with the ability to diagnose problems and implement solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for training and supporting users of clinical information systems.
  • Detail-oriented with proven organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information clearly.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge in documentation and reporting.
  • Experience with Visual Studio programming.
  • Understanding of server operation principles in a complex client/server environment.
  • Knowledge of HL7 interface protocols and networking technologies.
  • Understanding of Clinical Operations and ability to improve clinical workflows.
  • Experience in Cardiology services.
  • Knowledge of UCSF APeX clinical systems, data, policies, and procedures.
