About the position

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) is seeking a Systems & Database Manager to join its Information Technology (IT) Division. This role is pivotal in enhancing the educational landscape in Orange County by leveraging technology to provide innovative business solutions tailored to the specific needs of various school districts. The IT Division is dedicated to simplifying processes and enhancing the educational experience through creative and collaborative approaches. As the Systems & Database Manager, you will be responsible for managing, planning, organizing, and supervising the operating systems, servers, storage, and databases within the IT Division. This includes assessing requirements, planning, designing, installing, upgrading, and creating policies that govern the use of these systems. You will also manage and support OCDE servers, storage devices, operating systems, and databases, ensuring they operate efficiently and effectively. In this role, you will coordinate activities with other divisions and outside agencies, providing complex staff assistance to higher-level management. You will be expected to recommend and assist in implementing goals, objectives, and strategic plans, establishing schedules and methods for specialized services, and implementing policies and procedures that enhance the overall functionality of the IT Division. Your leadership will be crucial in driving the success of technology initiatives that support educational outcomes in Orange County.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, plan, organize, and supervise operating systems, servers, storage, and databases within the IT Division.
  • Assess requirements and plan, design, install, upgrade, and create policies for systems and databases.
  • Manage and support OCDE servers, storage devices, operating systems, and databases.
  • Coordinate assigned activities with other divisions and outside agencies.
  • Provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to higher-level management staff.
  • Recommend and assist in implementing goals, objectives, and strategic plans.
  • Establish schedules and methods for specialized services and implement policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in managing systems and databases in an IT environment.
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems, server management, and database administration.
  • Ability to assess requirements and design effective solutions.
  • Excellent organizational and supervisory skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with various stakeholders.
