About the position

The Systems Development Engineer I position at Amazon Robotics focuses on designing, building, and operating resilient cloud-based services for managing edge devices at scale. This role is part of the Global Edge Compute Team, which oversees a vast network of over 1,000,000 devices across more than 3,000 locations worldwide. The engineer will work collaboratively to automate processes, optimize device management, and ensure operational excellence in a dynamic and innovative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the platform for managing Amazon's edge devices.
  • Design reliable systems and automate manual processes.
  • Optimize the management of devices worldwide.
  • Collaborate with engineers to tackle unique operational challenges.
  • Apply technical expertise to resolve problems and create maintainable solutions.
  • Drive team agility by optimizing design, automation, development, testing, and operational processes.
  • Design and configure monitoring and alerting systems to identify potential issues.
  • Identify and address risks in technical designs, ensuring stability and innovation.
  • Learn and adapt to Amazon internal builder tools and AWS technologies.
  • Troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and implement lasting solutions.

Requirements

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby.
  • Experience with automation tools for building, testing, releasing, or monitoring.
  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of and proficiency in Python scripting language.
  • Experience with highly concurrent, high throughput systems.
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience.
