About the position

Amazon Robotics is seeking a Systems Development Engineer I who will be responsible for designing, building, and operating resilient cloud-based services to manage edge devices at scale. This role is part of the Global Edge Compute Team, which oversees a vast network of over 1,000,000 devices across more than 3000 locations worldwide. The ideal candidate will be innovative, passionate about automation, and capable of translating business requirements into maintainable solutions while collaborating with a diverse team.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the platform for managing Amazon's edge devices.
  • Design reliable systems and automate manual processes.
  • Optimize the management of devices worldwide.
  • Collaborate with engineers to tackle unique operational challenges.
  • Apply technical expertise to resolve problems and create robust solutions.
  • Drive team agility by optimizing design, automation, development, testing, and operational processes.
  • Design and configure monitoring and alerting systems to identify potential issues.
  • Identify and address risks in technical designs, ensuring stability and innovation.
  • Learn and adapt to Amazon's internal builder tools and AWS technologies.
  • Troubleshoot issues effectively and implement lasting solutions.

Requirements

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby.
  • Experience with tools for automation (building, testing, releasing, or monitoring).
  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of and proficiency in Python scripting language.
  • Experience with highly concurrent, high throughput systems and knowledge of complex distributed systems.
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
