About the position

The Systems Engineer Co-op position is designed for students who are eager to gain hands-on experience in the engineering field while working alongside an experienced project team. This role will provide the opportunity to engage in various aspects of systems engineering, including instrumentation and electrical design, system design and configuration, and onsite system startup. The co-op will be involved in real-world projects, allowing them to apply their academic knowledge in practical settings and develop their skills further under the guidance of seasoned professionals. As a Systems Engineer Co-op, you will be assigned specific responsibilities based on the project requirements and your individual capabilities. The role will involve a mix of technical tasks, collaboration with team members, and direct interaction with clients. You will have the chance to contribute to the design and implementation of control systems, ensuring that you gain a comprehensive understanding of the engineering processes involved in system development. The position is structured to provide a balanced experience across different phases of project execution. You will participate in creating instrument lists, compiling documentation, and providing technical support for panel fabrication. Additionally, you will engage in system design activities, including configuring user interfaces and control algorithms, and assist in customer demonstrations and acceptance testing. The co-op will also involve onsite responsibilities, where you will install software, perform calibrations, and troubleshoot any discrepancies, ensuring that you are well-prepared for a future career in engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Create instrument lists by examining P&ID drawings
  • Compile submittal and procurement documentation for controls and instrument hardware
  • Provide technical support for panel fabrication technicians
  • Inspect completed control enclosures
  • Participate in customer design review meetings
  • Assemble development system using project hardware and computers
  • Configure user interface and HMI screens
  • Configure DDC, PLC and/or DCS control algorithms
  • Draft system documentation from templates
  • Assist in customer demonstrations and acceptance testing
  • Install project software and configuration onto site systems
  • Participate in point-to-point loop checks
  • Perform instrumentation and software calibration and tuning
  • Participate in functional tests of all systems
  • Troubleshoot installation discrepancies
  • Program field modifications as required
  • Assist with developing commissioning test plans and documentation updates/redlines
  • Assist with developing training documentation/presentation on operations and maintenance of system

Requirements

  • Full-time student status
  • Strong academic achievement, maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Enrollment in a Bachelor's program in a Technical Field, related to Engineering or Systems
  • Passionate about problem solving and developing solutions
