About the position

The Systems Engineer Entry Level position at General Dynamics Mission Systems involves supporting the design, development, accreditation, and maintenance of Cybersecurity capabilities for U.S. Navy submarines. This role is ideal for recent graduates with a background in Systems Engineering or related fields, focusing on integrating software and hardware systems to meet defense requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design Cybersecurity capabilities to meet Navy requirements and provide security against emerging threats
  • Analyze current systems engineering documentation and processes
  • Decompose government provided requirements and security controls into system-level requirements
  • Create/update documentation such as System/Subsystem Specification, Software Requirement Specification (SRS), Interface Requirements Specification (IRS), and Concept of Operations (CONOPS) documents
  • Participate in various technical and program meetings on a weekly basis
  • Work closely with a small group of developers to ensure implementation is in accordance with the requirements
  • Review and execute various test procedures including Performance Verification Test (PVT) and System Level Test (SLT) to ensure testing appropriately validates requirements
  • Research, identify, and evaluate applications used to support the program
  • Evaluate system requirements and configuration for compliance with Authorization and Accreditation requirements and support system accreditation efforts

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field
  • Department of Defense Secret security clearance required within a reasonable period of time
  • U.S. citizenship is required

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with topics including TLS/SSL and AES encryption; SHA hashing; access control; auditing; network firewalls; intrusion detection/prevention, certificate use, etc.
  • Awareness of cyber standards such as ICD-503, NIST 800-53, DJSIG, or the DoD 8500 series
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office: Microsoft Visio, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Understanding of networking protocols, e.g., UDP, TCP/IP, ICMP, encryption, etc.
  • Demonstrable evidence of an analytical approach to problem solving
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic Linux command-line knowledge
  • Ability to read C, C++, and Java source code desired, but not required
  • Cybersecurity minor or certification a plus
