About the position

The Systems Engineer I will be a key contributor to the Systems engineering team for the BD COR™ System, focusing on high-throughput molecular testing solutions. This role involves collaboration across various engineering disciplines and requires a disciplined approach to system integration, utilizing tools like Design for Six Sigma to ensure high-quality product development. The position emphasizes both technical expertise and strong leadership skills, with responsibilities spanning from technology development to product commercialization.

Responsibilities

  • Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems under general direction.
  • Contributes to management of product requirements and high-level design specifications under the direction of a supervising System Integrator.
  • Assumes a technical contributor role and works closely with other functional groups, especially assay development, hardware engineering, and software engineering.
  • Understands and can discuss terminology, concepts, and principles related to product development.
  • Evaluates problems of moderate complexity and applies analytical/scientific principles to fulfill project and business objectives.
  • Tests, analyzes, and interprets data to provide solutions, draw conclusions, and identify trends.
  • Formulates and reports on test methods and outcomes.
  • Participates in planning and supports the completion of system verification and validation activities.
  • Responsible for understanding and employing statistical approaches to manage technical risk and impart product robustness and reliability.
  • Assists in the transition from R&D to manufacturing and to system solving activities for products in the field.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering approaches to in vitro diagnostic development.
  • Experience with automation, data acquisition, and statistical methods.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic instrumentation, preferably that which uses key automation technologies such as fluid handling, robotics, imaging systems, thermoelectric incubators, and spectral/fluorescent analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience as a member of a project team.
  • B.S. in Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Early career candidate with related internship or thesis-based applications in fields such as Medical Technology, Life Sciences, and Diagnostic Instrument development.
