About the position

The Systems Engineer II at UT Dallas plays a crucial role in the data engineering and management of large-scale research initiatives, particularly supporting the BrainHealth Project. This position focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining data infrastructures that facilitate accurate data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes. The role requires collaboration with software engineers and data scientists to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance while optimizing systems for future AI and machine learning applications.

Responsibilities

  • Provisioning, deploying, administering, monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, upgrading, and patching IT resources and services.
  • Documenting processes, procedures, system configurations, and specifications.
  • Designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing data infrastructure for ETL processes.
  • Building, maintaining, and deploying data products for analytics and data science teams on AWS.
  • Preparing raw data in Data Warehouses into consumable datasets for stakeholders.
  • Ensuring data accuracy, integrity, privacy, security, and compliance through quality control procedures.
  • Collaborating with Lead Software Engineers and Data Scientists to build and maintain robust data pipelines.
  • Redesigning data structures to accommodate new sources and types of data.

Requirements

  • No degree with six years of recent applicable experience.
  • Associate Degree with four years of applicable experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree with two years of applicable experience.
  • Proficiency in GraphQL, PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, Express.js, Docker, and AWS.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience with relational databases and database design.
  • Strong proficiency in object-oriented programming languages.
  • Experience with cloud Data Warehouse solutions.
  • Experience working with large data sets and distributed computing.
  • Working knowledge of cloud-based solutions and services.
  • Experience in database management using PostgreSQL.
  • Skills in developing and managing RESTful web APIs.
  • Strong understanding of data integrity, optimization, and security.
  • Ability to build and maintain efficient, scalable data pipelines.
  • Proficiency in data pipeline and workflow management tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Two years of experience in backend or data engineering.
