About the position

The Systems Engineer II (Backups) at Edgewater Federal Solutions is responsible for the design, deployment, testing, certification, and maintenance of backup systems and infrastructure. This role involves ensuring the interoperability of various components, including Storage Area Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), and local disk systems, while also addressing security and performance issues. The engineer will serve as an expert in backup environments, providing ongoing support and improving the overall information security of the backup infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and provide ongoing support of the Backup Infrastructure.
• Serve as the advanced matter expert for all Backup environments.
• Create and maintain backup infrastructure for both bare-metal and virtual machines with appropriate storage configurations.
• Provision/configure required backups for Linux and Windows servers.
• Evaluate, improve, and maintain information security throughout the backup infrastructure.
• Monitor and correct backup issues, creating recovery processes for failures and performance bottlenecks.
• Install, configure, test, and maintain system management tools, SAN, and Tape infrastructure.
• Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
• Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks and implement solutions with developers.
• Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
• Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency.
• Participate in the design of information and operational support systems.
• Provide 3rd level support and liaise with vendors for problem resolution.
• Ensure technical documentation is up to date for all systems.
• Integrate systems with Windows and Linux as it applies to core service dependencies.
• Document system configurations and maintain inventory of systems.
• Transition knowledge to Government staff through training and assistance.
• Provide real-time reporting of backup storage consumed and utilized resources.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 6 years' experience with Net Backup and IBM Spectrum Protect Suite required.
• U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with SCI-CI poly.
• Active Top-Secret Clearance with SCI-CI Poly eligibility.
