About the position

The Systems Engineer II - Data Analytics and Reporting role at Spectrum is focused on multi-tier operations engineering, design, solution deployment, and project management. This position collaborates with principal engineers and program managers to establish best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards for Internet and WiFi products. The engineer will provide technical and project management leadership, working across various teams to deliver business-critical projects and enhance the customer experience through reliable network operations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with internal departments to review existing integration capabilities, data sources, and proposed solution designs for feasibility, cost, and functionality.
  • Create design documents and functional specifications for new applications/services and enhancements to existing systems/services.
  • Collaborate to create configuration designs for the implementation of various environments.
  • Manage compliance and security mitigation tasks and initiatives.
  • Provide regular interval reporting on the status of compliance initiatives and security mitigation tasks and requests.
  • Create work effort estimates for new features and bug fixes for prioritization and release management.
  • Develop core code modules, unit test tools, and release notes for enhancements and bug fixes.
  • Review new development tools, application frameworks, and testing tools for functionality/effectiveness.
  • Provide 'on call' support to resolve issues after normal business hours.
  • Use established change management processes to perform operational procedures with minimal customer impact.
  • Work with database administrators to configure, tune, and maintain databases in various languages.
  • Document systems configurations and upgrades.
  • Monitor and assist in managing applications, compliance initiatives, environment security mitigation, device availability, network conditions, system reliability and performance, service and program maintenance, and storage resources.
  • Collaborate on and create automation with vendors and engineering to improve implementation processes.
  • Ensure projects are accurately estimated and delivered according to schedule.
  • Work with the field on the implementation of WiFi and internet network-related projects.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience; may require Industry Standard Certifications.
  • Minimum three (3) years of Application Development experience in relevant areas.
  • Minimum two (2) years of Network OSS application experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of System Administration experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of Database support and development experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of Experience in Enterprise Application Integration (EAI).
  • Advanced ability to create detailed documentation to functionally understand new and existing applications.
  • Advanced ability to follow and implement established change and control policies and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of development tools, application frameworks, and testing tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of choosing the appropriate lifecycle and the planning, monitoring, and control of the systems engineering process.
  • Ability to effectively transform an operational need into a description of system parameters and incorporate those parameters in the control of the total system development.
  • Advanced knowledge of network and systems engineering systems concepts and system/super-system skills, including VMWare systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of Excel, data analysis, and reporting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum seven (7) years of Systems Integration work experience.
  • Knowledge of ACLs, firewalls, and load balancing; both physical and virtual.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of advanced networking capabilities to include IGMP, IP unicast, IP multicast, REST API, RPC, DNS, DHCP, TFTP, NTP, and other critical service delivery protocols.
  • Advanced knowledge of network architectures, configurations, TCP/IP, and the OSI Model.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills and use of instrumentation tools.
