About the position

The Systems Engineer II will play a crucial role in the Systems engineering team for the BD COR™ System, focusing on high-throughput molecular testing solutions. This position requires collaboration across various engineering disciplines and the application of systems engineering principles to ensure the integration of electromechanical devices for automated diagnostic tests. The role emphasizes a disciplined approach to product development, leveraging tools like Design for Six Sigma to enhance product quality and value.

Responsibilities

  • Provide solutions to a variety of technical problems under minimal direction.
  • Contribute to management of product requirements and high-level design specifications.
  • Work closely with other functional groups, especially assay development, hardware engineering, and software engineering.
  • Evaluate problems of moderate complexity and apply analytical/scientific principles to fulfill project and business objectives.
  • Design and perform development activities within defined parameters under minimal supervision.
  • Test, analyze, and interpret data to provide solutions, draw conclusions, and identify trends.
  • Participate in planning and support the completion of system verification and validation activities.
  • Assist in the transition from R&D to manufacturing and to system solving activities for products in the field.

Requirements

  • Experience with Systems Engineering approaches to in vitro diagnostic development.
  • Experience with automation, data acquisition, and statistical methods.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic instrumentation, particularly automation technologies such as fluid handling and robotics.
  • Familiarity with requirement and specification management for FDA regulated products.
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience as a member of a project team.
  • B.S. or M.S in Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • Two plus years relevant experience in Medical Technology, Life Sciences, and Diagnostic Instrument development.
