About the position

The Systems Engineer III - Linux Admin is responsible for the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software within the University of Kansas Health System. This role involves participating in technical research and development to foster innovation in infrastructure, ensuring adherence to organizational values to enhance patient care and financial management. The engineer also assists project teams in planning and executing projects, providing technical analysis, and mentoring co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the Tier-III escalation point for requests related to new applications or functionality and resolve system or hardware deficiencies.
  • Participate in the engineering, planning, and deployment of infrastructure systems for IT and business customers.
  • Identify automation opportunities in workflow and systems management tools.
  • Ensure timely completion of assigned project tasks and adhere to project management methodologies.
  • Represent the Server Design, Development, and Enterprise Storage team positively.
  • Support and maintain usable systems for end users, collaborating with vendors and internal teams to resolve issues.
  • Maintain documentation on systems technical configuration and contribute to the knowledge base.
  • Plan and schedule system upgrades and updates, coordinating with other teams and vendors.
  • Ensure application data retention periods comply with hospital or regulatory requirements.
  • Function as the coordination point for application-related issues and act as an escalation point for unresolved issues.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • 7 or more years of experience in the IT field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters Business Administration in Information Technology or related field or 2:1 equivalent experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Information Technology or related field or 2:1 equivalent experience
