About the position

The Systems Engineer - Industrial Control at Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) will provide Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) to the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) for technology development projects. This role involves collaborating with various mission partners to advance engineering program development related to research, development, acquisition, and testing of cutting-edge technologies. The position emphasizes employee ownership and a commitment to professional growth within a supportive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Industrial Control Systems Engineering support expertise to U.S. Air Force customers advancing engineering program development related to R&D, acquisition, development, and testing of cutting-edge technologies.
  • Work closely with program managers, lead project engineers, and program teams.
  • Advise on research demonstrations and testing opportunities, identify and mitigate program risks, advise on new technologies, and advise on emerging threat assessments.
  • Analyze program requirements, attend design reviews, and evaluate plans for system assembly, testing, and demonstration.
  • Evaluate contractor designs at the component and integrated systems level.
  • Evaluate contractor plans for system assembly, integration, component/system level test, and demonstration/experiment planning and execution.
  • Assist with review of contractor deliverable status, milestone schedules, status reports, and cost performance reports.
  • Provide technical inputs during contractor design, test, and readiness reviews to facilitate on-time and fully-capable deliveries.
  • Provide continuity and feedback between the program manager, project engineers, and test teams.
  • Assist in the preparation of Broad Area Announcements (BAAs) and other contractual documents.

Requirements

  • Industrial Engineering experience with control systems, SCADA, electrical power, Petroleum-Oil-Logistics (POL).
  • 10 years' experience with multi-domain systems, including systems integration and test, field testing, modeling and simulation, and systems analysis.
  • Knowledge with integrated systems, milestone planning, testing process and procedures, and data collection.
  • Experience with requirements analysis, requirements definition and verification, technology planning, air or space vehicle and systems design, systems integration, and advanced testing.
  • Experience with risk management as projects transition from initial designs to Critical Design Review, build, and demonstration.
  • Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) program acquisition planning and execution.
  • Strong skills in documenting inputs, outputs, and requirements.
  • Experience with Systems of Systems integration and functionality.
  • Experience working with U.S. Air Force or U.S. Space Force or customers.
  • Experience developing high-level project/work plans.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience providing technical and/or acquisition support to DoD technology development efforts.
  • Experience as a systems engineer or program manager for hardware & software and integration & test.
