About the position

MITRE is seeking highly motivated candidates to join its Systems Engineering team, focusing on solving complex challenges critical to national security. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with mission specialists, engineers, and government stakeholders to tackle systems engineering challenges.
  • Develop and assess intricate system architectures using industry-standard languages such as SysML/UML.
  • Evaluate and compare alternative architectures through qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
  • Identify and articulate major uncertainties within system architectures, devising strategies to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Support requirements management, interface management, and architecture change management processes.
  • Work with government sponsors and internal teams to identify critical engineering challenges and engineer effective solutions.
  • Apply systems engineering principles to facilitate evidence-based decision-making by sponsors.
  • Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing across the organization.
  • Communicate technical analyses and recommendations clearly to sponsors and partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or an advanced degree with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Solid understanding of systems engineering principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical areas relevant to the role, such as model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering.
  • Knowledge of tools and methodologies commonly used in systems engineering, including SysML/UML, Cameo, MagicDraw, and Rhapsody.
  • Experience engaging with multiple levels of government and military leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Flexibility to work on-site as required by the position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience in systems engineering principles, tools, and methodologies, with a focus on defense or national security applications, or Master's and 6 years of experience.
  • Proven track record of working on projects related to defense, homeland security, or aerospace for government agencies.
  • Demonstrated interdisciplinary background, showcasing continual learning and adaptation to new technologies.
  • Active DOD Top Secret clearance with SCI.
  • Advanced expertise in systems engineering, including advanced system architecture design and analysis.
  • In-depth understanding of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles and tools.
  • Proficiency in system-of-systems engineering concepts and methodologies.
  • Experience in systems integration and interoperability testing.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering standards and frameworks (e.g., ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, DoDAF).
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in systems engineering.
