About the position

The Systems Engineer & Mockup Manager at KBR is responsible for leading the SVMF Systems Engineering & LOE team within the Space Vehicle Mockup Facility. This role involves collaborating with NASA customers, external vendors, and various stakeholders to capture and negotiate requirements, ensuring the successful implementation and integration of space vehicle mockups. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, and will be dedicated to continuous improvement and team collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Assign and coordinate the daily tasks of Systems Engineers developing requirements and designs for change requests (CRs).
  • Develop and maintain schedules for work components within the Agility planning tool.
  • Ensure consistency of work products among the SVMF SEs.
  • Resolve or elevate issues identified by the team.
  • Foster continuous improvement within MSOC by supporting Continuous Improvement events and Corrective Action Plans.
  • Ensure that system/subsystem requirements and engineering documents are maintained and delivered on schedule.
  • Provide input to the Section Manager on staffing decisions and resource allocation.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
  • Develop CR requirements and designs by collaborating with customers and users.
  • Perform high-level requirement assessments and facilitate detailed assessments by technical organizations.
  • Create and update documentation for design and change instruments.
  • Perform analysis, assessments, and trade studies to translate customer requirements into specifications.
  • Lead systems architecture design and integration efforts.
  • Provide Systems Engineering support to MSOC implementing organizations.
  • Communicate with MSOC organization and customer contacts.
  • Oversee maintenance and usage of hardware, systems, and mockups/trainers in the SVMF.
  • Review and oversee integration of Flight Vehicle Change Requests affecting the SVMF mockups.
  • Provide oversight of fabrication and modifications to the mockups.
  • Authorize training, engineering, and Public Affairs Office activities within the mockups.
  • Manage supporting documentation for the mockups.
  • Submit and track problems and discrepancies related to the mockups.
  • Provide overall status of the mockups to SVMF NASA and FOD Program Management personnel.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or other engineering-based technical degree and appropriate certifications.
  • At least 5 years of related experience.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong personal initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Demonstrated experience across various areas of the systems engineering lifecycle including requirement analysis, design, and documentation.
  • Leadership skills with proven ability to provide technical coordination to a small team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of human spaceflight requirements.
  • Knowledge of NASA JSC MCC, Mission Training Center, and SVMF subsystems.
  • Knowledge of IT systems (hardware, software, networks) and applications.
  • Understanding of IT Security policies.
  • Understanding of network and system architectures and means of detecting IT security issues.
  • Familiarity with system Reliability, Maintainability, and Availability (RMA) concepts.
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle and agile development practices.
  • Experience with requirements management tools, particularly DOORS.
  • Experience with ServiceNow or a similar ITIL workflow toolset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of applications.
