About the position

The Space Systems Engineer will play a critical role in supporting the Stirling Technology for Advancement of Radioisotope (STAR) Power System Project at NASA Glenn Research Center. This position involves leading a technical team through the system design life cycle, ensuring rigorous execution of technical studies, assessments, and project management support. The engineer will be responsible for developing system requirements, interface control documents, and overseeing integration and testing efforts, all while making program risk assessments and providing recommendations to senior management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and guide the STAR Power System technical team through the system design life cycle (SDLC).
  • Execute and facilitate technical trade studies, analyses, and assessments.
  • Provide Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) support to the Project Manager for project planning and execution.
  • Identify and document stakeholders and their expectations.
  • Develop and document interface control documents and specifications.
  • Perform requirements assessments and develop system requirements.
  • Develop a Systems-level Concept of Operations.
  • Lead Assembly, Integration, and Test efforts.
  • Oversee Requirements Verification and Validation.
  • Support Engineering Review Boards (ERBs) as needed.
  • Conduct program risk assessments and provide actionable recommendations to the chief engineer and program manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with fourteen (14) years or more experience; Master's degree with twelve (12) years or more experience; PhD or JD with nine (9) years or more experience.
  • Experience leading a small and agile integrated product team (IPT).

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with space flight system/vehicle development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with NASA technology readiness levels (TRLs).
  • Knowledge of NPR 7120.5, NPR 7123.1, and related Glenn Research Center development policies and procedures.
