About the position

This is an excellent opportunity for a creative and results-driven systems engineer to make a positive impact with a high-tech solution-oriented organization. You will be part of an interdisciplinary technical team that validates our solutions and drives the testing and delivery to our customers. This role is responsible for the technical development, testing, integration, volume, and acceptance testing of the overall Dematic solution. The position can be fully remote, with a preferred location at any one of our field offices throughout North America, including major offices in Atlanta, GA, Grand Rapids, MI, Dallas, TX, Plano, TX, or Milwaukee, WI. In this role, you will support early development activities (RFQ) to ensure that the product being sold does not exceed internal targets for throughput. You will provide technical guidance to the quote team regarding timing, implementation, technical issues, standards, lessons learned, and project hour estimates for the System Integration Management (SIM) function. Additionally, you will be responsible for the development of key customer product documents, including system specifications, test plans, and validation criteria. You will participate in and approve the simulation of the design through computer simulation, ensuring that product meetings align with the sold design criteria and proposal. Engaging in both internal and external customer meetings will be essential to ensure that the product being implemented meets customer specifications. You will work closely with internal engineering teams on design and software, defining and agreeing on interfaces between component systems, including software, mechanical systems, controls engineering, and product engineering. On-site support during product installation will be a critical aspect of your role, providing technical guidance and oversight to ensure correct installation and commissioning of the product. You will execute and support various testing phases, including Software Acceptance Testing, System Integration Testing, System Throughput Testing, System Acceptance Testing, and customer-specific high-volume testing. Establishing and planning resource needs for on-site testing will be necessary, along with gaining customer approval on all key documents and testing plans. You will also manage and update the customer on project deliverables and testing related to SIM functions and responsibilities, while providing leadership and guidance to junior staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Support early development activities (RFQ) to ensure product being sold does not exceed internal targets (throughput)

  • Participate and approve the simulation of the design (Computer Simulation) to ensure product meets sold design criteria and proposal
  • Participate in both internal and external customer meetings to ensure product being implemented meets customer specifications
  • Work with internal engineering teams on design and software
  • Define & agree on interfaces between component systems including software, mechanical systems, controls engineering, and product engineering
  • Provide support on site during installation of product, ensuring correct install and commissioning
  • Execute/support testing of products on site including Software Acceptance Testing, System Integration Testing, System Throughput Testing, System Acceptance Testing, and high volume testing
  • Establish/plan resource needs to conduct testing on site
  • Gain customer approval on all key documents and testing plans (Pre/Post testing)
  • Support punchlist items as needed on site (quality issues, technical issues during install)
  • Manage/update the customer on project deliverables and testing
  • Provide leadership and guidance to junior staff members

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science / Technical Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Control Engineering
  • Master or Advanced Degree in Engineering is considered an asset
  • 7+ years' experience in engineering with demonstrated experience in the material handling industry preferred
  • Functional leadership and expert communications
  • Demonstrated ability to create technical documentation (test plans, customer specifications, etc.)
  • Ability to be customer-facing with good customer interaction skills
  • Collaborative and effective team player able to work with regionally located teams
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods based on project life cycle, approximately 40%+ annually
