About the position

The Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in shaping the technical direction for various IT projects and groups within the organization. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating R&D programs, identifying suitable technologies, and implementing strategies that align with business objectives, ultimately driving innovation and efficiency within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate partnership R&D programs and identify best-fit technologies.
  • Translate sponsor's desired mission outcomes into practical implementation strategies.
  • Communicate technical details to non-technical senior leadership effectively.
  • Collaborate with development teams and business units to implement enterprise reusable services.
  • Lead engagements with technical and sponsor leadership to shape IT solutioning vision and strategy.
  • Design, develop, and operate API-based services and manage their lifecycle.
  • Analyze and integrate third-party COTS and GOTS technologies and solutions.
  • Utilize project management methodologies such as Agile or Scrum for project execution.
  • Implement process improvement methodologies like Lean or Six Sigma.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud computing technologies, including AWS and Azure.
  • Experience with software engineering, including design, development, and testing of software systems.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements analysis and system integration.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and API Gateway design patterns.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, and Typescript.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in explaining technical details to non-technical audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, and VPNs.
