About the position

The Systems Engineer at Moravian University is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the physical and virtual infrastructure that supports the university's operations. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the infrastructure is reliable, efficient, and secure, while also managing hardware and software components, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively maintain and repair the physical IT infrastructure across multiple campuses.
  • Design, deploy, configure, and maintain Data Center hardware and software.
  • Ensure network infrastructure systems are efficient, reliable, and secure.
  • Implement and diagnose wireless networks, focusing on capacity planning.
  • Manage campus-wide cabling plant and end-user device installations.
  • Oversee infrastructure backups, upgrades, and maintenance procedures.
  • Collaborate with Campus Police on security camera design and maintenance.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure issues, escalating as needed.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure documentation and knowledge base articles.
  • Manage vendor relationships and ensure compliance with service level agreements.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and conduct regular testing.
  • Identify and implement automation solutions for manual tasks.

Requirements

  • Associates/Bachelors Degree in computer science, information technology or related field, OR 5+ years of hands-on experience in LAN/WAN/wireless environments.
  • Preferred: Industry certifications such as CompTIA, Cisco or Microsoft.
  • Deep understanding of network hardware and software, network architecture, and design principles.
  • Expertise in IP networking, routing, switching, and wireless technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of VoIP protocols, such as SIP and RTP.
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining computer networks.
  • Hands-on experience with network administration and automation tools.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex network issues effectively.
  • Hands-on experience with VoIP hardware and software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Cisco IOS/NX-OS, VMWare, SAN technologies, Windows & Linux Server OS, MacOS.
  • Solid written and oral communication skills.
