About the position

The Senior Principal Systems Engineer will lead a diverse team of engineers supporting the Advanced Precision Kill Weapons System (APKWS) portfolio at BAE Systems. This role involves direct customer interaction to shape the next generation of APKWS products, ensuring alignment with U.S. Government mission values. The candidate will coordinate all Systems Engineering activities across the program life cycle, ensuring disciplined processes are followed while fostering collaboration and innovation within the team.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers in the development of the APKWS portfolio.
• Coordinate Systems Engineering activities across all aspects of the Program Life Cycle.
• Engage with Engineering Leadership and Technical Subject Matter Experts to assist in product development.
• Interface directly with customers to derive and shape product requirements.
• Mentor team members and contribute to hands-on problem-solving.
• Support the long-term strategic direction of the business area through technical expertise.
• Ensure all projects follow disciplined Systems Engineering processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering or Systems Engineering.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with Semi-Active Laser Systems.
• Experience working across the entire Systems Lifecycle.
• Experience in weapons systems design, missile systems design, or weapons systems performance analysis.
• Familiarity with low cost and low SWaP design and development.
• Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and other engineering disciplines.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in DASAL Technology and Laser Guided Munitions.
• Familiarity with Aeronautical properties and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
• Ability to coordinate vendors and teams in the development of passive/active sensor systems for test/evaluation.
• Assist in the flow down of requirements to testable modular hardware and software.
• Support trade studies, presentations, proposals, and related activities.
• Experience leading technical teams.
• Ability to understand and generate CONOPS.
• Model Based Systems Engineering experience.
