About the position

The Senior Principal Systems Engineer will lead the Integrated Product Team for the Advanced Precision Kill Weapons System (APKWS) portfolio at BAE Systems. This role involves collaborating with engineering leadership, program managers, and suppliers to develop next-generation APKWS products, focusing on expanding capabilities in Distributed Aperture Semi Active Laser Systems (DASALS) and Counter Unmanned Air Vehicle Systems (C-UAS). The ideal candidate will engage directly with customers, mentor team members, and contribute to strategic direction through technical expertise, all while fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion within a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Integrated Product Team for the APKWS portfolio.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership and program managers to develop next-generation products.
  • Engage with customers to derive and shape product requirements.
  • Mentor team members and contribute to their professional development.
  • Support the technical direction and objectives of the business area.
  • Coordinate with technical subject matter experts to exploit relevant technologies.
  • Define RF/EO/IR Seeker technology and product roadmaps.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Semi-Active Laser Systems.
  • Understanding of RF/EO/IR systems architecture, modeling, design, and testing for guidance and navigation systems.
  • Experience in weapons systems design or performance analysis.
  • Familiarity with low cost and low SWaP design and development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and engineering disciplines.
  • Experience with field testing of guidance system applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering.
  • Experience in system architecting for guided projectiles.
  • Familiarity with Aeronautical properties and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
  • Ability to coordinate vendors and teams in sensor system development.
  • Experience leading technical teams.
  • Model Based Systems Engineering experience.
