About the position

The Systems Engineering Team Lead for the Gateway Project Wireless Access Point (WAP) is responsible for managing systems engineering activities related to NASA's Gateway Program. This role involves overseeing project schedules, procurement documentation, and system requirements, while ensuring compliance with engineering standards. The position requires collaboration with a diverse team to support the design, verification, and validation of systems that contribute to deep space exploration.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the SE activities of the Gateway Program Wireless Access Point (WAP)
  • Support engineering flight project schedule, procurement documentation, budget and system requirements documents
  • Develop and support sub-project requirement and verification data packages
  • Conduct product life cycle reviews and coordinate integration, verification and validation activities
  • Align requirements with hardware specifications and understand verifications
  • Perform system engineering functions and provide user input feedback during the design process
  • Work with ground testing and flight operations testing of hardware
  • Review verification and validation reports for compliance with requirements
  • Participate in system requirements reviews, preliminary design reviews, and critical design reviews
  • Perform and review system level architecture trade studies and analyses
  • Participate in test, verification, and operation of the as-built hardware
  • Identify risks, develop risk statements, and plan risk responses
  • Present schedule and progress to customers
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area
  • 10 years of relevant experience in systems engineering
  • Knowledge of SE&I processes, methodologies, tools and technologies including model-based systems engineering
  • Knowledge of test principles, tools, and processes needed to develop test requirements
  • Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field
  • Ability to prepare written documents and verbally present at meetings
  • Able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines with limited supervision
  • Experience working in a team environment

Nice-to-haves

  • Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering and normally possess 5-10 years of related experience
  • Knowledge of Flight Hardware and/or Flight Processes/Paperwork
  • Experience with NASA processes
  • Knowledge and experience with DOORS Next Generation
