About the position

As a Systems Integration Engineer at Viasat, you will be an integral part of a team dedicated to designing and developing advanced Remote Sensing Antenna Systems and Satellite Communications Terminals. Your role will involve a variety of tasks that are crucial to the successful integration and testing of these systems. You will be responsible for the design and documentation of cabling interfaces between and within major assemblies on antenna systems, ensuring that all components are selected and integrated according to specifications. This position requires a strong understanding of network planning and setup activities, as you will be actively involved in customer design reviews, presenting your design solutions in alignment with customer requirements. In addition to design responsibilities, you will prepare test plans and procedures, conduct factory and site acceptance tests, and summarize your findings in technical reports. Your expertise will also be needed in advising on the selection and setup of specialized test equipment, including BER, Group Delay, G/T, and Servo response testing. A mechanical background will be beneficial, as you may assist in the assembly of the mechanical structures of the antenna systems both at Viasat and in the field. Maintaining good customer relations will be essential, as you will represent Viasat on-site. You will utilize AutoCAD to create essential documents such as interconnects, schematics, wiring diagrams, and cable drawings. Additionally, you will maintain an indentured drawing list and structure a bill of materials for ordering parts. You will share the responsibility of leading the integration and testing of antenna systems at both the factory and customer sites, conducting system-level testing such as G/T, EIRP, BERT, and servo dynamics with support from your team.

Responsibilities

  • Design and document cabling interfaces between and within major assemblies on antenna systems.
  • Select components for antenna systems and perform basic network planning and setup activities.
  • Participate in customer design reviews and describe design solutions in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Prepare test plans and procedures, and conduct factory and site acceptance tests.
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing findings and recommend solutions to technical problems.
  • Advise on the selection and setup of specialized test equipment including BER, Group Delay, G/T, or Servo response testing.
  • Assist in the assembly of the mechanical structure of the antenna systems at Viasat and in the field.
  • Create documents using AutoCAD such as interconnects, schematics, wiring diagrams, and cable drawings.
  • Maintain an indentured drawing list of components and equipment.
  • Structure a bill of material for ordering parts as outlined in an indentured drawing list.
  • Share the responsibility of leading the integration and testing of an antenna system at the factory and customer site.
  • Conduct system-level testing such as G/T, EIRP, BERT, and servo dynamics.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in the design and/or assembly of RF systems, AC/DC circuits, Servo motor controls, and modem/base-band equipment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience configuring vendor equipment remote control interfaces to communicate over a local area network.
  • Experience analyzing requirements, developing test plans/procedures, and detailing test results.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT or similar CAD package for creating wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Experience in operating equipment such as Multi-meter, Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, Signal Generator, and Network Analyzer.
  • Ability to work independently and solve sophisticated problems in remote locations with minimal assistance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (written and oral).
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a United States Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to work on-site in Duluth, GA facility.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SATCOM or Remote Sensing Earth Observation type RF electronics, HPA's, Converters, LNA's, at S, X and Ka bands.
  • Experience with testing G/T, EIRP, BERT, and Servo Control loops.
  • Experience with monitor and control computers and related subsystems.
