About the position

The Systems Integration Engineer Intern at Viasat will work as part of a team focused on developing Remote Sensing Antenna Systems and Satellite Communications Terminals. This internship offers hands-on experience in designing and documenting cabling interfaces, preparing test plans, conducting acceptance tests, and summarizing technical findings. The role is designed for students pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, providing an opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a practical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of test plans and procedures
  • Conduct factory and site acceptance tests
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing findings and recommend solutions to technical problems
  • Direct the selection and set-up of specialized test equipment to include BER, Group Delay, G/T, or Servo response testing

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Class work or exposure to the design and/or assembly of electrical systems, AC/DC circuits, servo motor controls, base-band equipment and basic networking
  • Ability to analyze requirements, develop test plans/procedures, and document test results
  • Excellent communications skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to work independently and solve complex problems in remote locations with minimal assistance
  • Familiar with AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT, or similar CAD package for the creation of wiring diagrams and schematics

Nice-to-haves

  • A strong mechanical background and experience with mechanical assembly
  • Experience in the operation of equipment such as Multi-meter, Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, Signal Generator, and Network Analyzer
  • Coursework or experience in satellite communications
  • Knowledge of RF
  • Experience with Remote Sensing, Earth Observation, or other military or commercial systems
  • Computer control of Ethernet devices over LAN and WAN
