About the position

The Systems Programmer I/II position at Clark County's Finance Department is responsible for supporting the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, which are crucial for HR/Payroll, Financial, and other related processes. This role involves installing, configuring, and modifying large-scale computer operating systems and applications, as well as troubleshooting and maintaining system performance. The position offers a pathway for growth, as the Systems Programmer I is a training underfill position that can lead to a promotion to Systems Programmer II upon successful completion of the training program.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and modify large-scale computer operating systems and utility programs.
  • Perform assembler and higher language programming to support inter-data base and inter-computer interfaces.
  • Analyze and solve day-to-day terminal and network problems reported by users.
  • Modify, test, and implement changes to County communications software to improve performance.
  • Coordinate with applications programming staff to determine necessary modifications to systems software.
  • Install, test, and implement vendor-supplied modifications to existing software.
  • Evaluate, test, and recommend hardware and software to meet ongoing computing requirements.
  • Plan and develop test data to validate new or modified programs.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems for customers and other agencies.
  • Maintain records and documentation of systems installations and modifications.
  • Monitor system performance and modify tuning parameters as needed.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Processing, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Two years of full-time professional experience in applications or systems programming.
  • For Systems Programmer II: Two years of professional level experience in the installation and maintenance of operating system software for large-scale computers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Windows operating systems.
