About the position

The Sr Z/OS Systems Programmer (MFA Admin) is responsible for managing various types of databases within legacy systems, including hierarchical, relational, and file-based databases. This role involves planning and upgrading database environments, ensuring database health, and providing technical consulting for application and operations teams. The programmer will also conduct performance evaluations, develop database designs, and implement backup and recovery procedures, among other responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage different types of databases such as IMS, DB2, and ADABAS.
• Plan and upgrade database environments on a County-established basis.
• Verify the health of all databases.
• Provide database administration technical consulting for application and operations teams.
• Perform maintenance on production database systems.
• Conduct technical reviews for existing systems utilizing DBMS like ADABAS, DB2, or IMS.
• Evaluate and select new or fine-tune existing DBMS software.
• Consult with project development teams on database design recommendations.
• Develop logical and physical database designs.
• Create overviews of logical database designs and physical databases.
• Conduct database capacity planning and performance monitoring.
• Implement backup and recovery procedures for databases.
• Monitor database space and perform reorganizations, replication, compression, and partitioning.

Requirements

• Experience with IBM Z/OS, IMS, DB2, ADABAS, SMP/E, JCL, IMS DB/DC, CICS, ACF2, ASSEMBLER/COBOL/REXX, IBM FILE MANAGER, DELTA/IMS, NATURAL/SUPERNAT, ENTIREX, CA SPOOL, IMS & DB2 BMC Tools, N20/TRIM.
• Strong knowledge of database management systems and administration.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with IBM MFA V2.3, Z/OSMF, HCD, HMC, ACF2, DB2 and Mainframe tools.
