About the position

The Systems Project Engineer role at Hubbell Incorporated involves engaging with leading-edge heavy industrial and electric companies to enhance project engineering skills on custom power system protection and control systems. The position encompasses all phases of project work, including inspection, design, engineering, validation, and commissioning, while also focusing on customer interactions, proposal preparation, and adherence to industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Read and analyze customer specifications and drawings to incorporate requirements into design activities.
  • Design customized protection & control systems in accordance with established industry standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software to perform design tasks.
  • Develop drawings and BOM required for the manufacture and testing of customized systems.
  • Stay updated on power system protection and control industry standards applicable to heavy industrials and electric utilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and develop software solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and debug software issues to ensure system reliability and uptime.
  • Develop procedures for testing and validation of customized systems and assist customers with field testing and commissioning.
  • Lead or assist with customer training on company products and systems.
  • Develop and adhere to approved project schedules and provide status reports to management and customers.
  • Maintain working relationships with vendors for technical support and services.
  • Review system design for compliance with engineering principles and customer contract requirements.
  • Prepare project interim and completion reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • Seven years of related experience in power system protection and control for power generation, transmission, and distribution applications.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and drawings.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as OPC, Modbus, DNP3, IEC-61850, and BACnet.
  • Programming skills in languages such as VBScript, Python, and SQL for customizing HMI/SCADA functionality.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional, AutoCAD, MS Project, Visio, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Development of graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for operator control panels.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for cybersecurity and data integrity in industrial protection and control systems.
