About the position

The Systems Safety Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the safety of aircraft systems throughout their development lifecycle. This role involves applying software safety standards and requirements, conducting various safety analyses, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve complex safety-related issues. The position requires a strong understanding of both civil and defense safety processes, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hazard identification and risk analysis for aircraft systems.
  • Perform safety assessments including Functional Hazard Assessments and Safety Assessment Reports.
  • Apply software safety standards such as DO-178C and MIL-STD-882 throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address safety-related challenges.
  • Communicate safety findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in aircraft or system development/sustainment programs with structured safety processes.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or related experience such as military rotorcraft qualification.
  • Experience with software safety standards and requirements (e.g., DO-178C, MIL-STD-882).
  • Familiarity with SAE ARP-4761 and MIL-STD-882 safety processes.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and model-based safety analysis (MBSA).
  • Advanced degrees in relevant fields.
