About the position

The Systems Safety Engineering Manager at SAIC will oversee safety and mission assurance services for NASA's Human Space Flight programs at Johnson Space Center. This role involves managing technical communications, performance metrics, and staff development while ensuring compliance with contract requirements and fostering innovation in safety engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regular communication with the PM regarding technical items and issues related to projects and programs.
  • Contribute to the generation of task-specific Basis of Estimates (BOEs) and monthly forecasts.
  • Communicate performance issues to the PM and Deputy Program Manager.
  • Provide monthly product reporting including metrics and trend analysis.
  • Maintain data in designated repositories to comply with Quality Management System and Configuration Management requirements.
  • Establish and maintain forums, training, and certifications for staff development.
  • Monitor and manage staff performance, including succession planning and skill growth opportunities.
  • Manage resource assignments and workloads, including staffing and training requirements.
  • Provide inputs to the Business Management Office regarding metrics and trends.
  • Coordinate technical approaches across workgroups to address issues efficiently.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or related technical discipline.
  • Ten years or more experience in a relevant field; or a Master's degree with eight years of experience.
  • At least five years of experience supporting human spaceflight.
  • Demonstrated senior technical engineering experience.
  • Excellent technical team leadership and customer communication skills.
  • Familiarity with risk management methodologies and resource planning.

Nice-to-haves

  • Project management experience and familiarity with methodologies and tools.
  • PMP certification is considered a plus.
  • Experience with NASA SMA Technical Excellence Program (STEP) courses.
