About the position

The System/Network Engineer position at Quadrant, Inc. in Sterling, VA, is a critical role that requires an experienced professional with a strong background in systems and network administration. The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of overall IT experience, with at least 5 years dedicated to troubleshooting complex network, system, and end-user support issues. This role demands a proactive approach to monitoring and reporting on system service performance, ensuring the quality of individual network services, and taking corrective actions as necessary. In this position, the engineer will be responsible for developing, executing, and tracking the performance of security measures to protect the company's information and network infrastructure. This includes planning, developing, implementing, and updating the company's information security strategy. The engineer will also play a key role in educating and training staff on information system security best practices, as well as designing a comprehensive cybersecurity architecture in a lab environment. Hands-on experience with proxy tools such as ZScaler or Cisco Umbrella is essential, along with a strong understanding of firewalls, particularly Fortigate/Fortinet tools. The engineer will be tasked with installing software to monitor systems and networks for security breaches, identifying and remediating vulnerabilities, and managing multi-factor authentication (MFA) platforms. Additionally, the role involves performing on-call operational duties on a rotational basis, ensuring that the systems remain secure and operational at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively monitor and report on overall system service performance and take action to correct deficiencies.
  • Develop, execute, and track the performance of security measures to protect information and network infrastructure.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and update the company's information security strategy.
  • Educate and train staff on information system security best practices.
  • Design computer security strategy and engineer comprehensive cybersecurity architecture in a lab environment.
  • Install software that monitors systems and networks for security breaches and intrusions.
  • Monitor systems for irregular behavior and set up preventive measures.
  • Identify, analyze, and remediate infrastructure, application, and OS level vulnerabilities and compliance issues.
  • Build and maintain a lab environment consisting of VMware vCenter and ESXi.
  • Test and implement security OS hardening utilizing GPOs and scripting.
  • Manage MFA platform including administrators, users, and application protection.
  • Manage Zscaler tenant to adhere to defined company policies.
  • Audit security implementations through monitoring firewalls.
  • Perform on-call operational duties on a rotational basis.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of overall IT experience working with Systems and Networks.
  • 5+ years of technical experience troubleshooting complex network, system, and end-user support issues.
  • Strong application management and support experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Proxy tools such as ZScaler or Cisco Umbrella.
  • Experience in the change management process strongly preferred.
  • Understanding and hands-on experience creating and managing GPOs via Active Directory.
  • Strong experience with firewalls both hands-on and monitoring (preferably Fortigate/Fortinet tools).
  • Experience providing system and network security and hardening measures.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to work well on a team and independently.
  • Relevant Certifications are a plus: Network+ce, Security+ce, CCNA, VMWare, or Fortinet.
