About the position

The T&D Specialist (Sr/Principal) at PacifiCorp is responsible for providing technical expertise in substation apparatus, protection and control equipment, and communications equipment. This role involves investigating and resolving complex issues, facilitating internal training, and developing new programs and processes to enhance operational effectiveness. The position is critical in ensuring compliance with safety procedures and NERC reliability standards while supporting the T&D System Operations team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise to critical and highly complex substation, distribution, and transmission operation and control functions.
  • Develop and modify policies and practices to improve the overall operational effectiveness of PacifiCorp's transmission and distribution system.
  • Lead development and implementation processes and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Evaluate policies, procedures, and other documentation to ensure compliance with safety procedures and NERC reliability standards.
  • Supervise local relay technicians, communication technicians, and substation journeymen, developing and reviewing schedules as required.
  • Analyze schemes and prints and prepare field notebooks for installation of substation equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers and operations staff to resolve system and design issues.
  • Provide training for various departments including dispatch, relay technicians, and substation journeymen.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five years of directly related experience.
  • Knowledge of the power system.
  • Assessment skills for problem diagnosis and resolution.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for consulting and resolving issues.
  • Ability to work with diverse teams and individuals.
  • Expert knowledge of current technologies, tools, systems, and vendors.
  • Proficient with personal computers and automated tools.
  • Understanding of applicable company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to translate technical jargon into layman's terms.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Ability to respond after hours to support field crews.
