About the position

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc. (SGA) is seeking an experienced Tableau Developer for a Contractor role with one of our premier financial clients located in mid-town Manhattan, New York, NY. This position offers a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be in the office two days a week. The ideal candidate will work closely with product managers and owners to establish requirements and develop workflows and queries necessary for Tableau development. The role involves translating business requirements into detailed dashboard specifications and evaluating existing reporting to identify opportunities for recreation in Tableau. The Tableau Developer will be responsible for developing a solution or framework for provisioning data that business users can utilize in Tableau. Participation in visioning sessions and design reviews to create wireframes is also a key aspect of this role. Additionally, the developer will support ad-hoc requests for visualizations and dashboards, and perform other related duties as required by management. This position requires a strong background in developing operational and analytical dashboards, with a focus on utilizing Tableau to implement complex solutions that access data from multiple sources.

Responsibilities

  • Work with product managers/owners to establish requirements
  • Develop workflows and queries to obtain data required for Tableau development
  • Translate business requirements into dashboard specifications
  • Evaluate existing reporting to identify opportunities to recreate in Tableau
  • Develop a solution/framework for provisioning data for consumption by business users who are looking to utilize Tableau
  • Participate in visioning sessions and design reviews to develop wireframes
  • Support ad-hoc requests for visualization and dashboards
  • Perform other related duties as required by management

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience developing Operational and Analytical Dashboards
  • 4+ years' experience utilizing Tableau to implement complex solutions that access data from multiple sources
  • 4+ years of hands-on MS SQL experience, Data Virtualization, and Dimensional Modeling
  • Able to aggregate data from disparate sources
  • Master of Tableau charting; reusability; leveraging variables and templates, and building / deploying section-access security models
  • Strong knowledge of Tableau server architecture and building robust boarding solutions by applying business rules and data validations
  • Advanced scripting and ETL, data modeling (star schema)
  • Use of complex Tableau functions and developing optimal scripts for a given solution
  • Able to create advanced highlight actions, parameters, filters (Local, Global) and calculated sets for preparing dashboards and worksheets using Tableau
  • Proficient in building, and publishing customized interactive reports and dashboards; report scheduling using Tableau server
  • Effectively used data blending with multiple data sources and drillable hierarchies
  • Must have strong consultative, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must have developed enterprise applications for use in production environments
  • Full life-cycle methodology including change management processes and ensuring changes are properly tested and migrated to production
  • Willingness and ability to suggest areas of improvement
  • Proficient in using MS Access and MS Excel (i.e. Pivot Tables) preferred
  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and effectively handle changing requirements
  • Able to design and develop dashboards that can be easily accessible on mobile devices

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Alternative investments, Asset Management, Investment Management, or Private Banking is highly preferred
