About the position
TekSynap is seeking a Tableau Specialist to join our team supporting our NGA customer in Springfield, VA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Tableau and will be responsible for managing the life cycle of Tableau analytics dashboards. This includes gathering business requirements, writing functional specifications, prototyping, developing, quality testing, user acceptance testing, and implementing post-launch enhancements to support customer resource owner information needs. The role requires designing engaging and interactive business insights dashboards using Tableau while applying data visualization best practices to enhance user interaction and experience. The Tableau Specialist will work closely with business analysts and sponsors to gather and validate functional requirements, develop design specifications, and prepare visual presentations in Tableau. They will analyze and create visual solutions for data projects and other data management needs, ensuring effective communication of messages through the use of color, type, illustration, graphics, and layout techniques. Collaboration with senior technicians, data scientists, architects, and the portfolio manager is essential to gather relevant information and perform independent research. The role may also involve working with raw data and preparing dashboards as requested by government managers while collaborating with the Tableau developer.
Responsibilities
- Manage the life cycle of Tableau analytics dashboards including business requirements gathering, functional specification write-up, prototyping, development, quality testing, user acceptance testing, roll-out, and post-launch enhancements.
- Design engaging and interactive business insights dashboards using Tableau.
- Apply data visualization best practices to enhance user interaction and user experience.
- Prepare visual presentations in Tableau.
- Plan, analyze, and create visual solutions to data projects and other data management needs.
- Identify effective communication methods in Tableau using color, type, illustration, graphics, and layout techniques.
- Collaborate with senior technicians, data scientists, architects, and the portfolio manager to gather relevant information and perform research.
- Work with raw data as needed.
- Prepare dashboards per government managers' requests while collaborating with the Tableau developer.
Requirements
- Clearance: TS/SCI with CI Poly
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, STEM, or related field
- 5+ years of experience using Tableau Desktop in designing and developing business intelligence dashboards
- Experience with User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) using tools such as wire frames, prototypes, mock-ups, or white boarding
- Experience working with large and complex data sets and the ability to write simple queries to create calculated fields
- Understanding of data systems such as Business Intelligence (BI), analytics, data blending, data warehousing, and ETL
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work on multiple projects and flexibility to change priorities when needed.
