About the position

The Tactical Integration Test Engineer position at Astrion is a mid-level role that involves supporting the 46 Test Squadron at Eglin Air Force Base. This role is crucial for planning, designing, and executing test events for tactical integration programs. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic tactical integration test team, responsible for interfacing with various stakeholders, including System Program Offices, Joint Battle Labs, and product development contractors. The position requires a strong foundation in systems engineering and a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies. In this role, you will be expected to perform a variety of tasks, including developing test plans and procedures, executing tests, and producing timely reports. You will also be responsible for operating and troubleshooting various datalink systems and equipment, such as Link 16 and other joint and coalition capabilities. The position offers opportunities for professional growth through on-the-job training and formal courses in unique technology areas. The Tactical Integration Test Engineer will work in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong communication skills to present technical details effectively. The role also involves some physical demands, such as the ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted. The position requires travel to contractors' facilities and test sites, both within the continental United States (CONUS) and outside (OCONUS), up to 25% of the time. Responsibilities

  • Perform as a member of the 46 TS Tactical Integration Element (TIE) Test team.
  • Interface directly with System Program Offices, other services, Joint Battle Labs as well as product development contractors.
  • Plan, execute, and report on associated datalink systems including Common Data Link (CDL), Link 16, Situation Awareness Data Link (SADL), Integrated Data Modem (IDM), Remotely Operated Vehicle for Emplacement & Reconnaissance (ROVER), Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK), Field Computing Device Wearable (FCD-W), DPSS/APASS, THS-II, TACP-CASS, Special Warfare/BAO and other like-systems.
  • Operate datalink systems/equipment/protocols to include Link 16, J series messages, Variable Message Format (VMF), and Cursor on Target Systems (CoT) and various other joint and coalition capabilities.
  • Proficient/familiar with various radios to include: MIDS LVT and MIDS JTRS terminals, PRC-161, PRC-117F/G, PRC-152, PRC-163, PRC-160, SADL radios etc.
  • As a technical leader in an engineering role, review customer requirements and participate in test planning meetings.
  • Develop test plans and procedures, schedules, and execute a test within the constraints of customer requirements and produce timely test reports.
  • Capable of performing as a team leader in directing and executing datalink system testing.
  • Author technical documents and briefings and conduct formal presentations.
  • Travel to locations, as required, to conduct tests, collect and reduce data.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (i.e., CS, AE, ME, etc.) and 3-10 years of applicable experience. Additional experience may be substituted for education.
  • An active Secret Clearance adjudicated within the past five years with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
  • Recent experience supporting Windows OS's (i.e. Microsoft Server 2016, Windows 10), Domain Name Service (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and Active Directory.
  • Recent experience building Windows domains; proficient in troubleshooting IT hardware and software issues.
  • Ability to communicate and present technical details both written and verbally.
  • Able to travel to contractors' facilities, test sites, and other locations, CONUS and OCONUS, up to 25% of the time.
  • Strong work ethic; Comfortable working in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with networking hardware, configuration, and protocols
  • Good understanding of basic networking (routing/switching/ VLANS/firewalls.)
  • Proficient in PowerShell scripting.
