About the position

Parsons is seeking a skilled Tactical Network Engineer to join our team in Herndon, VA. In this pivotal role, you will support our critical mission partner in enhancing national security within a dynamic research and development environment. Your primary responsibility will be to design a network that integrates seamlessly with existing infrastructure, enabling operations teams to effectively utilize tools and technologies at the Tactical EDGE. This position requires a proactive approach to supporting tactical sensor development and deployment, ensuring that our systems are robust and reliable. You will analyze existing designs and prototypes, recommending modifications as necessary to meet evolving requirements. Collaboration with the program management team will be essential to accurately identify and prioritize network load, ensuring optimal performance. Your role will also involve conducting network testing and performing detailed analysis on packet captures, characterizing network traffic across various environments. You will author and execute comprehensive network test plans and procedures, working closely with government and systems engineering teams to address integration issues and maximize system performance through effective diagnostics and resolution. In addition to these responsibilities, you will evaluate system performance and recommend improvements to ensure long-term viability. Implementing preventative maintenance measures will be crucial in minimizing outages and maintaining operational efficiency. As part of your duties, you may also be assigned additional responsibilities as needed, contributing to the overall success of our mission.

Responsibilities

  • Design a network to integrate with existing infrastructure for effective operations at the Tactical EDGE
  • Support tactical sensor development and deployment
  • Analyze existing designs and prototypes, recommending modifications as needed
  • Work with the program management team to identify and prioritize network load
  • Conduct network testing and perform analysis on packet captures
  • Characterize network traffic in various environments
  • Author and execute network test plans and procedures
  • Collaborate with government and systems engineering teams on integration issues

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience as a network engineer
  • Bachelor of Science in engineering, scientific, technical discipline, or comparable work experience
  • TS/SCI clearance eligible
  • Experience supporting USMC and US Army communications equipment
  • Experience supporting D-DIL communications solutions
  • Proficient in telecommunications, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and infrastructure technologies such as IEEE, EIA/TIA, SATCOM, coax, copper, and fiber
  • Understanding of WAN, LAN, and Campus technologies; familiar with routing protocols including BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, and IP/MPLS
  • Experience with network analytical tools such as Wireshark, SolarWinds, and IPerf3
