About the position

The Tactical Network Engineer position is critical for ensuring that the network infrastructure meets the evolving needs of military operations. As a Tactical Network Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in network design and architecture to support the nation's defense. This role involves crafting networks that are not only robust but also adaptable to changing mission requirements. You will be responsible for upgrading or developing enterprise-wide infrastructure, troubleshooting complex network issues, and enhancing the security, reliability, and availability of mission-critical systems. Your work will directly impact national security missions by optimizing client operations and modernizing network capabilities. In this role, you will utilize your knowledge of various network protocols, equipment, and emerging technologies. You will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, guiding them through mission-critical projects that involve cryptographic equipment, key management, and the integration of advanced security measures. Your technical curiosity and understanding of industry standards will be essential as you contribute to the development and deployment of new capabilities and technologies for the Department of Defense (DoD). The position requires a proactive approach to network management, including participation in subsystem and system testing as a Subject Matter Expert (SME). You will also be involved in formal testing, fielding, installation, and training activities, ensuring that all network operations align with military standards and protocols. Your ability to travel up to 75% of the time will be necessary to support various missions and deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and design tactical network solutions to meet mission requirements.
  • Upgrade and maintain enterprise-wide network infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.
  • Analyze current network infrastructures and recommend improvements.
  • Enhance security, reliability, and availability of mission-critical network systems.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on cryptographic equipment and key management.
  • Participate in subsystem and system testing as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Support formal testing, fielding, installation, and training activities.
  • Coordinate with other stakeholders in matters associated with network operations.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience with Military or Tactical Network Operations (NetOps).
  • Experience managing and resolving technical issues of hardware and software.
  • Experience supporting formal testing and associated fielding, installation, and training activities.
  • Knowledge of tactical and strategic military communications networks.
  • Knowledge of the engineering design, installation, operations, and maintenance of Tactical Network architecture.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time.
  • Secret clearance required.
  • High School diploma or GED.
