About the position

The TAHC Livestock Inspector position involves performing inspections at various locations where livestock, exotics, and poultry are gathered. The role is crucial for enforcing livestock disease control measures and ensuring compliance with regulations. Inspectors will collect samples, maintain detailed records, and participate in emergency management activities related to disease outbreaks. This position requires extensive travel within designated counties and involves physical demands related to handling livestock.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections at livestock markets, feedlots, slaughter plants, flea markets, farms, and ranches.
  • Collect samples for testing from various livestock species.
  • Enforce quarantines and livestock disease control measures.
  • Conduct public education contacts with community media resources and organizations.
  • Participate in emergency management activities and responses to disease outbreaks.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed work activity records.
  • Drive extensively on a daily basis using personal or agency vehicle.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from standard senior high school or GED.
  • Inspector II: General experience working with livestock.
  • Inspector III: At least one year of livestock experience as a TAHC Livestock Inspector or USDA Animal Health Technician.
  • Inspector IV: At least two years of livestock experience as a TAHC Livestock Inspector or USDA Animal Health Technician.
  • Inspector V: At least two years of livestock experience as a TAHC Livestock Inspector or USDA Animal Health Technician.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in emergency management activities.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing livestock markets.
